Good morning, DMV. It’s Friday, Sept. 11 — the 25th anniversary of the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.
Today, I share your photos of comfort, joy and peace.
(James M. Speicher)
James M. Speicher, 74, of Jefferson, Maryland, took this photo at 7:47 p.m. on Sept. 9, a few miles south of Middletown, Maryland, looking west towards South Mountain.
“I'm a fan of sunsets given that observing them doesn't require early rising,” he wrote in his submission.
He shared his memory from 25 years ago, when he was working at the National Institutes of Health.
“On 9/11, I and my (NIH) lab chief were isolated in a BSL3 [Biosafety Level 3] laboratory working on West Nile virus vaccine research. We emerged to find a dramatically altered world.”

(Anne Leitch)
From Anne Leitch: “I grew these zinnias in my Rockville (Maryland) backyard and took this picture Labor Day Weekend. I loved how the afternoon light caught the flowers.”

(Eileen Schramm)
Eileen Schramm, 68, of Silver Spring, Maryland: “My comfort is my cat Tinka draped over the back of my reading chair and wrapped around my neck. I will stay for hours so as not to disturb my vibrating neck warmer. This happens mostly during cooler weather, but she has surprised me with a few snuggles this summer … this one was from April.”

(Jackie Marks)
Jackie Marks, 43, of Hyattsville, Maryland, captured this image on August 30 at her local garden center, Denchfield Landscaping.
“A serene water feature featuring these beautiful lily pads,” she wrote in her submission.

(Roberta Youmans)
D.C. resident Roberta Youmans, 72, sent this photo with this brief note: “First visit to the 9/11 museum in NYC on 9/10/26. Very powerful and sad.”
