Happy photo Friday, DMV! It’s Oct. 2.

Today we revisit Anthony Marasco, whom I wrote about in July in a post headlined, “A former fed’s life after DOGE ... at Nats Park.”

Anthony, who worked at the ballpark as a guest experience representative, sent me an email with an end-of-baseball season photo and these observations from a summer greeting fans:

  • Nobody walks into a ballpark without a smile on their face.

  • A surprising number of people wearing New York Yankees caps confessed they weren’t actually Yankees fans. They just liked the hat.

  • The spirit of the old Washington Senators is very much alive. I had countless conversations with fans who shared stories and memories of the team.

  • Based solely on the number of non-Nationals caps spotted around the park, the Boston Red Sox easily win the “best represented visiting fan base” award. Pretty impressive.

One of his favorite experiences came after the final out of the final game, when he was asked to escort a young woman — a huge Mets fan who used a wheelchair — to run the bases.

“As we made our way around the bases, I turned it into a play-by-play,” he wrote.

“That's a single!”

At second base: “You've got a double! Let's go for three!”

At third: “A triple! Don't stop now!”

And as they crossed home plate: “You just scored the winning run! Give that girl a contract!”

“My first run on the bases” on Sept. 28. (Anthony Marasco)

“I told the family that it was actually my first time ever running the bases in a professional ballpark, too, and that I was glad we got to do it together,” he said.

“The summer at the ballpark was pure joy for me. Running the bases was icing on the cake.”
